2023
ANNUAL Report

GROWING TO MEET THE NEED

2023 will go down in our collective memories as the year of October 7th. As a Jewish organization, we have wept together with the people of Israel and banded together with Jewish communities around the world as we have faced antisemitic hatred on display like never before in our lifetimes.

At a time when it would have been natural for us to want to turn inward and only help those inside of our community, with your support, Ve’ahavta has instead significantly increased the number of people served – people of all faiths and backgrounds – whose lives we have changed.

In 2023, our mobile outreach van served nearly 70,000 hot meals on the streets of Toronto, North York and Scarborough and nearly 300 people participated in our pre-employment programs. That’s a 200% increase since 2020 and we are incredibly proud and grateful to you for making it all possible.

Thank you.

Because of you, people trapped in poverty are getting a second chance at life – the chance to come off of social assistance, earn their own income, and become independent.

But we can’t stop here. With program demand increasing steadily – by 400% since 2021 – we need to keep growing. Right now, we have waitlists into the end of the year, and we need to keep building our capacity to help as many people as need our services.

With you by our side, we’re confident that we can do it.

Thank you for contributing to the solution, and for partnering with us to end poverty one person at a time.

what’s in a name?

Ve’ahavta Le’re’acha Ka’Mocha

YOU SHALL LOVE THE STRANGER AS YOU LOVE YOURSELF

Ve'ahavta is a Jewish humanitarian organization dedicated to helping people of all faiths and backgrounds emerge from poverty. Our work is inspired by the most oft repeated commandment in the Torah – to love the stranger – which we action by giving of ourselves – both our time and our resources – to make the world a more caring and more just place –  one person at a time.
